Shelties in Australia

Shelties in Australia

Welcome to Shelties in Australia at Our Sheltie Site!

Amongst these pages you will find information on Shelties in Australia including temperament, health care, the breed standard, links to breeders and owners and general Australian dog links. There is also performance information on competing in obedience and agility within Queensland.

Did you know that we had only 1,314 sheltie pups registered in Australia last year? While a wonderful breed most Australians would not recognise a sheltie as anything other than a "minature collie". So if you want to find out more about these extraordinary dogs, read on.

To help guide you through this site on the left of each page is a navigator outlining the various pages: whenever you want to come back to this page click on "Shelties in Australia" highlighted in yellow. Likewise, you can use this navigator to get from page to page.

Where to start? To begin with come and find out about the Shetland Sheepdog, Companion Extraordinaire. On this page I give an introduction to the sheltie breed and temperament from an owner's perspective. I also talk about care, selection and a little on the history of the breed. From this page there are links to other sheltie owners' pages from around the world. These pages all have one thing in common - they highlight what wonderful companions the shetland sheepdog are, hence the title of this particlular page. You should also check out Companion Extraordinaire- Health Care for information on worming, heartworm, fleas, grooming, feeding and generally taking care of this wonderful breed.

Where to next?
For those of you particularly interested in Shelties in Australia, check out some photos of our Australian Champions and The Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) Breed Standard. It also highlights some conformational points on Grand Ch. Hillacre Wee McGregor, one of the current stars in the Australian confomation ring.

So you want a sheltie? The Sheltie Breeders in Australia page will help you find a sheltie breeder for the perfect companion, both online and snail mail addresses.Remember if you want a sheltie it is always best to get one from a breeder who is committed to the breed. Also see the Sheltie Clubs page for links to the state sheltie clubs. Includes some links to Australian pet owners' pages too.
